Sophia A. Kandt is widely recognized as one of the Kansas City metro area’s most knowledgeable and respected elder law attorneys. Since joining Stockton & Kandt, LLC in 2017, she has become a leading voice in Medicaid planning, long-term care strategy, and estate planning, with a particular focus on helping families protect assets and prepare for the rising costs of care.
A proud Kansan and former collegiate athlete, Sophia earned her undergraduate degree from MidAmerica Nazarene University and her J.D. from the University of Kansas, where she earned certifications in Elder Law and Trial Advocacy. She is VA-accredited, a member of NAELA, and a frequent lecturer for healthcare providers, social workers, and professional associations on elder law and Medicaid planning.
Sophia’s commitment to elder law is personal. As a high school and college student, she worked as a CNA and CMA in a nursing home and provided home healthcare. She also served multiple summers as a counselor at MDA camp, supporting children and young adults with neuromuscular diseases.
Today, Sophia combines her legal expertise with her real-world caregiving experience to advocate for families with both skill and compassion, helping them create plans that are practical, protective, and deeply personal.
Outside the office, she enjoys life with her husband and their young children, who keep her grounded and remind her daily of the importance of planning for and protecting the people we love most. Having lived in four countries and traveled to more than 30 others, she brings a perspective and an appreciation for diverse family dynamics and life experiences. These personal experiences deepen her ability to connect with clients, understand their priorities, and guide them with empathy and insight as they plan for their futures.
