Marion L. Stern

Marion is responsible for ensuring the firm operates smoothly and that every client receives the best possible legal representation. She meets regularly with clients to gain an understanding of their situation and make sure all of their needs and goals are being met.

Marion’s practice focuses on elder law, Medicaid planning, probate and trust administration, fiduciary litigation, estate planning, guardianship, and conservatorships. After a client has chosen us to represent them, Marion executes the agreed-upon plan.

Marion also leads the firm’s probate, trust administration, and fiduciary litigation departments. Her goal in these areas is to address legal issues in a friendly, supportive manner, explaining the issues involved and the options available in an easy to understand way. Prior to focusing on estate planning, elder law, and related areas, Marion was a litigator. Estate planning attorneys often refer clients embroiled in family disputes to other attorneys. Marion is quite comfortable handling both the transitional and adversarial components of each client’s case and excels at guiding families through difficult situations. Her ability in this area is due in part to her upbringing. Marion was raised in a large, blended family with different religions and ethnic backgrounds. She learned early on the importance of listening carefully with an understanding and compassionate ear, and that every family situation is unique.

Marion has been with Stockton & Stern, LLC for seven years and a Partner since 2015. She began her career as an intern for the Johnson County Kansas District Attorney’s Office, where she first worked in the area of economic crimes and prosecuting perpetrators of elder abuse. Marion received her B.A. from the University of Iowa with highest honors in History and high honors in Russian. She earned her J.D. from the University of Kansas, where she obtained a Certification in Business and Commercial Law. Marion is a member of the Johnson County Bar Association and the Kansas Bar Association, with an emphasis on the probate section. She is a contributing author of the Probate Manual for the State of Kansas.

Marion is married to a local fireman, Jeff. Together they have two young children, Rosalynn and Frederick, and two blue merle Australian Shepherds, Sandy and Buckets. The family resides in a 100-year-old home in Olathe, where Marion loves to cook lavish meals as an expression of love for her family and friends. She also enjoys riding her bike, connecting with nature in the process. In addition, she likes to travel and experience new cultures. Over the course of her life, Marion has lived in Italy, Germany, Spain, and Russia.
